We build and renovate hotel pools, estate lifestyle pools, gym lap pools and waterpark shells, and most of that work happens in resorts and estates that never close.
The pool in the photograph is at D’Oreale, Emperors Palace. It was refinished in turquoise marbelite in 2019, and the hotel stayed fully open while we worked.

Most of our resort work is done with guests in the building.

A hotel doesn’t shut for a pool. So we hoard off the work area, keep the site clean, and hold the noisy work back from the early mornings and late afternoons. Mmabatho Palms stayed fully occupied while we worked, D’Oreale at Emperors Palace stayed fully open, and at Waterfall the gym carried on training above the lap pool.

Hotel pools

D’Oreale’s Roman-style pool, set between its fountain and the cypresses, the Metcourt pool, and Mmabatho Palms. They were refinished in the turquoise marbelite the group usually chooses, with new tile and repaired coping.

Estate lifestyle pools

At CDP Kiepersol in Jackal Creek we built a 13.5-metre circular pool on two levels, with loungers set into the shallow water. It took about three months, working around the estate’s builders.

Gym and lap pools

At Waterfall Country Estate we renovated the gym’s 25-metre by 4 lap pool in four weeks, with members training above us. It has new marbelite and new mosaics, and the whole surround was re-tiled.

Waterparks and shells

At the Wild Coast Sun we spent four months guniting the structural shell of a 180-metre lazy river and the park’s central pools. At Fire & Ice in Melrose Arch we built the courtyard pool shell three floors above the shops.

Case in point

Two thousand square metres of lazy river.

We started at the Wild Coast Sun in March 2011 and spent about four months guniting. The lazy river is around 180 metres long, 4 metres wide and 1.4 metres deep, and then there are the pools at the centre of the park. Another contractor did the finishing, which is why our photographs show the gunite going on and not the finished ride.

Questions people ask

Can you renovate a pool while the hotel is open?

Yes, and that’s how most of our resort work is done. We cordon off the area, keep the site clean, and keep the noisy work to hours that won’t disturb the guests. Mmabatho Palms and D’Oreale at Emperors Palace both stayed open throughout.

How long does a hotel pool renovation take?

It depends on how much there is to do. The Metcourt pool at Emperors Palace took two weeks for the mosaics and marbelite. The Waterfall gym lap pool took four weeks, including the whole surround. A full refinish with new tile and coping, like the one at D’Oreale, takes longer.

Do you build waterparks?

We build the structural gunite, which at the Wild Coast Sun meant the lazy river and the central pools. Where the job is let that way, we hand over to the finishing contractor from there.
