We build learn-to-swim pools for the youngest swimmers. They’re enclosed or kept under a solar cover, and they come with the heat pumps that keep the water warm right through winter.

Where the first strokes happen.
A learn-to-swim pool is small, shallow and warm, and it works hardest in the months when the main pool stands empty. We build ours as gunite shells, like everything else we do, and then enclose, cover or heat them so that lessons can carry on all year.

Enclosed pools
At Curro Brackenfell we built a 12.5-metre by 10 enclosed pool in six weeks, working alongside the school’s builder. The site was beach sand, so it had to be over-excavated and compacted before the shell could go in.

Covered pools
At Crawford North Coast the school’s youngest swimmers have a learn-to-swim pool that’s kept under a solar cover.

Roofed, next to the main pool
At Pinnacle College Raslouw we built a roofed learn-to-swim pool together with the 25-metre school pool. The ground there is dolomite, so both pools have agricultural drains beneath them.

Renovated with the main pool
At Crawford Pretoria the 25-metre pool and the learn-to-swim pool next to it were renovated together, with the school crest set in mosaic.

Curro Brackenfell’s is 12.5 metres by 10. The size usually comes down to how many children are in a lesson and how much space there is beside the main pool.
Can you build on sand?
Yes, we can. At Curro Brackenfell the beach sand was over-excavated and compacted before the gunite shell went in. We always sort out the ground first.
How long does one take?
Curro Brackenfell took six weeks, with the school’s builder working alongside us.
