Background
The story of the build
A new indoor water-polo pool at the foot of Table Mountain — the single biggest project Curtis Pools has undertaken.
Built in Vredehoek, at the base of Table Mountain, this is a complete new aquatic centre for a Cape Town school, delivered with Base Projects as main contractor. Russ Curtis calls it the single biggest project the company has undertaken.
The pool is 25 m by 30 m and 2 m deep throughout, built for water polo. The filtration plant sits under the admin building, where space was tight: four heat pumps run inside with ducted air, and four more stand outside, because heat pumps kept indoors turn a plant room into a cold store. The pool took about five months.
