The story of the build
The old brick-built pool broken out completely and a 25 m gunite pool built in its place — with one piece of the old wall kept by the school.
St Dominic’s is a beautiful school with a pool that had become too short and too narrow for what Curro needed. The old pool was built of brick, so there was nothing to keep: it was broken out completely and a new 25 m by 12.5 m gunite pool built from scratch, 1.2 m to 1.5 m deep.
One piece did survive. The painted cross at the end of a lane on the old wall was cut out whole and preserved by the school, which has mounted it inside the pool area as a record of the pool that was there before.
